I wouldn’t say I am a huge traveler but I have been to a few choice cities. One of those choice cities I have visited a few times is Chicago.
There is great shopping, great restaurants and fantastic tourist sights to see. I love that it is a city near water and there are lots of fun things to do along the Navy Pier, including fun, games, eating and even a boat ride (day or night). Check it out all the fun at www.NavyPier.com.
I have been to the city without kids and with kids. Going with the family was a lot of fun. We were able to do some shopping, sight-seeing and some solid eating (deep dish pizza anyone?)
The kids and I decided to hit some of those famous Chicago landmarks, including what everyone calls the bean!
Five Fun Things to do in Chicago
(list in random order)
1.The Navy Pier
The Navy Pier encompasses more than 50 acres/20 hectares of Chicago lakefront. It has shopping, restaurants, parks and more. You can ride the 150-foot/45.7 meter Ferris wheel, which operates year-round (weather permitting). There are several sightseeing cruises too! You can see the Chicago skyline from the water and even watch twice a week fireworks during the summer. www.Navypier.com
2. Millennium Park
It has quickly become a destination of choice for visitors. There are gardens and, of course, the popular walk-up-and-touch sculpture “Cloud Gate”, known by many as “The Bean”. http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/millennium_park.html
3. The Magnificient Mile
Shopping! Enough said! The Magnificent Mile is a mecca for tourists with some of the best shopping around. http://www.themagnificentmile.com/
4. Alder Planetarium
Adler Planetarium is America’s first planetarium. It is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. It is home to one of the world’s most technologically advanced dome theatres. The planetarium is home to nine exhibitions and multiple theaters. In the historic Atwood Sphere, you can experience how the night sky looked in Chicago in 1913. http://www.citypass.com/chicago/adler-planetarium
5.Art Institute of Chicago
In 2014 TripAdvisor voted The Art Institute of Chicago #1 museum in the world. It is home to several masterpieces, including American Gothic, as well as the greatest impressionist collection outside Paris. You can also see art by Degas, van Gogh, Gaugin, Monet, and more. http://www.citypass.com/chicago/art-institute-chicago
